Uaymitun 2024-Blog Post #9 “The Beatles!”

Welcome to this blog post that captures highlights from our 2024 Winter in Uaymitun!

This blog post will highlight the arrival of longtime friends and frequent guests here, Dave & Deb and, as Ed Sullivan said those many years ago… “The Beatles!”

We had a quiet week between Betty and Joanne leaving and Dave & Deb arriving!

WS2792 arriving early!

Although the plane arrived early, Dave and Deb were delayed quite a while due to their baggage cart breaking down!

What a welcome for Sergio, who ever he was!
They’re here! They’re here!

After a quick trip from the airport out to the beach… they settled in!

A requisite pic by the pool!
On the beach for sunset… a bit of a cool Él Norté wind that night!
But a gorgeous sunset!

For supper the next night, we went up the coast to Pizza Paradiso!

Margherita Pizza, Yumm!
Having a swing!

That was followed by a quiet day at the beach and another great sunset!

The neighbours from 2 houses down were from Barrie!
Dave and Jeanette dropped by for the view!
Every night the sunset edges toward the open water!

The next night we hit one of their “bucket list” restaurants for their visit!

Our favourite Italian restaurant!

Sunset view of the Progreso Pier
Cappuccinos Maya!
And a Tiramisu!

It’s always nice to take time out to just go on a walkabout in our village, Chicxulub!

Being eyed by the T-Rex at the Chicxulub Pier
Cormorants on their favourite perches
The new Chicxulub sign on the Pier

That evening it was a night at the Viejo Bar with the Beatles tribute band “Now and Then”!

The Band
Matt & Terri
Dave & Deb
Yours truly proudly wearing his McCartney T-Shirt and my lovely lady!

It was great to spend time with Matt & Terri again! “Now and Then” were a great band and a good time was had by all!

A few pictures from some everyday kinda stuff…

We continued to bounce between a hot, humid day and a couple of cooler windy Él Norté days. The NE winds eventually brought a few unwelcome guests to the beach.

A few BlueBottle jellyfish spotted the beach for a few days!

We had a quick trip into Costco in Mérida for a few provisions.

At the Costco cenote
Dave’s “loaded” Kirkland Dog!
A beautiful sunset that evening!

The next day was one of the “good” days…

Elaine taking advantage of her new floaty!

The next day we went up to the Chelem market!

We ran into former neighbours, Larry & Norma

While us manly men rested with a Breakfast Burrito, the ladies went off shopping at the various artisans!

Saw a massive Cane Corso having a slurp!

One of the highlights of this winter was the opportunity to spend an afternoon and evening with Panchita and family. She and her kids looked after us for the 2013, 14 and 15 seasons before she had to relinquish the role. We try to spend time with her each winter!

Their favs… Lasagna followed by Brownies!
Fatima (Taty), Panchita, Taty’s partner Ali!
Great memories…
… for all!

Well, I think I’ll close out this Winter’s 9th blog for now! The next one will highlight a surprise birthday party! Shhhhhhh!

Cheers!

Love to all,

-Doug and Elaine

  1. Another great blog Doug, lovely pictures, great to see Panchita looking so good.

  2. Really enjoyed this entry. Great sunset photos, and overall. We are in Portugal now, and just a little chilly!

  3. Food is always enjoyable in Mexico! For those of you who don’t know both Doug and Elaine are amazing cooks! Pizza at Paradisio was good and our dinner at Elio’s was amazing! Of course Dave enjoyed his Kirkland dog and I enjoyed my pizza.
The band for the Beatles Tribute were top notch and it was great to see Matt and Terri.
As always Sunsets on the beach are a Must! Pictures are beautiful ❤️ Thanks for another great blog
