Uaymitun 2020-Blog Post #1 “Winter in Uaymitun!”

Dear family and friends… welcome to our Uaymitun 2020 Blog!

While we did have a major snow event back in November, the weather turned mild, leading to a green Christmas! The Weather Network wizards are, however, predicting a nasty winter, so we’re glad to be here before the worst hits!

Once again, we’ll get to spend quality time with my sister, Val, and her husband, George, who are just 6 houses down the beach!

Cheers from Uaymitun, MX!

After closing up the house on the Sunday, we drove to Wellesley to spend a night with Kerry, Bryan and the boys. Of course… it snowed that night! The next day was sunny and warmer, however, and Don & Sharon kindly drove us to the Toronto Airport Hilton where we were going to spend the night!

Don & Sharon wishing they were coming too! 🙂
What a great send-off!
Our view of Pearson International Airport!
We had a wonderful dinner at The Keg! Cheers!

Tuesday! WestJet Day! We arrived at the airport with enough time to grab some breakfast and relax for our 10:15 AM flight from Toronto to Merida.

Our chariot awaits!

It wasn’t a full flight, even though the gate staff said it was! I think they were just trying to coerce people into gate checking their carry-ons!

The flight was uneventful and basically on time! We cleared Immigration quickly and then waited for our luggage. Elaine’s came out very quickly, but we must have waited 20 minutes for mine to appear! The lady in front of us pushed the Custom’s button and got a RED light… very happy, for us! Ours was GREEN so we continued on to meet the car rental agent. Before we knew it we were heading out onto the Periferico and on to Progreso.

We’re here!

Miguel, our valedor, met us and helped carry our luggage up to the room and get our totes out of storage.

After a bit of unpacking, we took a break and enjoyed a cappuccino on the beach and caught the sunset!

Cappuccino beach selfie…
… and our first sunset!

We’re very happy that Val & George are here again this winter, after missing last winter due to health issues. They arrived a couple of weeks ago, so they’re fully settled in and had us over for a delicious meal… Papaya Chicken and a dessert creation by George!

A delicious homemade Strawberry Roll!

After dinner and a visit, we came back to Uaymarima and enjoyed just sitting on our patio before an early bed!

What a wonderful feeling to be back at our winter home!

Wednesday morning was beautifully warm and sunny!

A great way to enjoy morning coffee!
While up on the roof checking the propane tank, I always take a quick pic!
Lots of new plants beside the driveway!

Wednesday was also our 48th Wedding Anniversary! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Val & George at Hacienda Xcanatun.

After dark, at Hacienda Xcanatun…
… beautiful surroundings…
…great company…
… delicious food…
… super Feliz Aniversario dessert…
… all shared with the love of my life!

The rest of the first week was full of unpacking, shopping and occasionally taking a time-out to just enjoy being back in Uaymitun!

My morning chore… raking up any seaweed on our beach!
At low tide, a large sandbar appears…
… providing a rest area for the sea birds!
Our beach house, Uaymarima, from the sandbar

One of the surprises of our return is the new patio couch set! We really like it a lot!

The new patio set
A Xtabentun nightcap!

Another tradition restarted… enjoying sunsets with Val & George!

Beverages on the patio…
… and on the beach…
… priceless!

That’s it for our 1st Blog of 2020 season! I hope you enjoyed it.

Cheers!

Love to all,

-Doug and Elaine

PS: for those of you who are techies, this is my first blog entirely created on my 7thGen iPad using my Omoton wireless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard and mouse were a Christmas gift from my Secret Santa (Kerry)! 🙂

  1. Just curious – how is your place organized and cared for? i.e. which Santa Claus is responsible for the new plants and furniture? How does the pool stay in such beautiful condition?

  2. It’s great to see you guys are comfortably settled in for a warm winter. We won’t be here when you come back.

  3. Looking forward to seeing the beautiful beach sunsets with family next year.(Hint,Hint, LOL)
