Uaymitun 2025-Blog Post #8 “Final Days!”

Welcome to this blog post that captures highlights from our 2025 Winter in Uaymitun!

This blog post will highlight our final 2-1/2 weeks in Uaymitun and Mérida!

I’ll start out this blog with some more beach pics…

Enjoying another fabulous sunset with Dave & Jeanette and Val & George
What a view!
About to slide into the Gulf
A full moon as well
A couple of days later… the neighbours down the beach enjoying a dip at sunset
The next day, their toy arrived
We enjoyed another visit with Matt & Terri and enjoyed their view of the Progreso Pier

We had another visit with Bob & Pat in Mérida to take in the Guelaguetza Festival otherwise known as the Oaxaca Food Fair!

Parroquia Santa Ana
Sights of the Oaxaca Food Fair in the Parque Santa Ana
Elaine sampling another Oaxaca delicacy… Chapulines; dried, roasted and seasoned grasshoppers
A trip to the Oaxaca Food Fair wouldn’t be complete without…
… Guanabana ice cream!

As our time ran down, we made sure to check off a couple more things from our Bucket List.

Another great meal at Hermana República with Val & George…
… and a much anticipated Bro-Sis lunch at Crabster in Progreso
My final rake of our beach

One surprise for us was our little cat, Gatito, from last year and a few times this year is no longer “Gatito” but “Gatita” and she is going to be a Mama! Wow!

Meow, Meow… where’s my Salmon or Tuna???

This was not a normal winter season for us, with January being mostly a month of rest and recovery. February and into March was very busy with visits from Don & Sharon, Bill & Selena, Rog & Sandy, Afie and Dave & Deb. It was good to spend time with Raymond & Pamela, Bob & Pat and neighbours Dave & Jeanette. We also treasured our time with Val & George and Julie & Curtis.

And then, almost suddenly, it was time to pack up and leave the beach!

Farewell Uaymitun!

It’s also bitter/sweet to say farewell to Miguel, Maria and the boys!

Miguel, Jesus, Elaine, Maria and Mauricio
One last pic by the pool!

After saying our goodbyes, it was off to Mérida!

We dropped the car off to Yucatán Vacations at the Fiesta Americana Hotel, and then checked into our favourite spot, Luz en Yucatán for 3 nights!

As the weather was very hot, 38-40c, we waited until early evening to go for dinner at Amaro!

Great ambiance, great food, great service
We beat the rush and had a great table with a welcome fan to cool things off
Elaine with Caesar at the entrance
Victor making Cappuccinos Maya for us… as usual!

On our way back to the Luz, we came upon another wedding…

… again no invite!!!
A side view of the Teatro Jose Peon Contreras, which should reopen in November 2025.
By the pool at the Luz
What a comforting place
It’s good to know our little friend is still in his place of honour outside our room!

After a light lunch at La Tratto, we just had to go check out Babe’s Noodles & Bar across the street!

Very nice ambiance… maybe a light meal here next year!
Posing with my new sombrero!

For our last dinner, we went to Chaya Maya for Yucatecan style food

La Chaya Maya by Parque Santa Lucia
Cheers from La Chaya Maya
A final relax by the pool

Homeward bound!

It’s always comforting with your inbound plane arrives on time!
Final Cappuccinos Maya
We spent the night at an airport hotel

Our plans for the travel home that morning changed due to impending terrible weather. Don & Sharon picked us up from the airport and we went straight to Wellesley to give a quick hug to Kerry and the boys… then it was off to Sarnia through snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice pellets and then heavy rain.

We were very thankful to be home safely!

Home again!

Well, this will close out this Winter’s 8th and final blog! As always, we’re looking forward to return for another Winter in Uaymitun in 2026!

Cheers!

Love to all,

-Doug and Elaine

  1. Your photos really elicited what to us is an exotic place, since we have not been in that region for a while. However in late November we will go back to Costa Rica, and plan to follow with cycling in Yucatan. So it’s possible we will pass by to bug you in 2026!

    1. Thanks Steve & Dodie! Enjoy Costa Rica… we’ll look for you in Uaymitun in 2026!

  2. Doug, was thinking of you and your famous tshirt. Thought this might have been the year, and alas….. another Leaf collapse
    Have a great summer
