Uaymitun 2025-Blog Post #7 “DaDeAfKeArFr&Di!”

Welcome to this blog post that captures highlights from our 2025 Winter in Uaymitun!

My apologies for the tardiness of this post!

This penultimate blog post will highlight the visit of long time friends Dave & Deb! Oh, and Afie… and not to forget Kent & Arlene… and their friends Fred & Diane! A busy time one might say!

Our good friends Dave & Deb have been coming to visit frequently since our very first stay in Uaymitun! They returned again this year for a 2 week visit!

WestJet arriving mostly on time…
… after quite a time waiting for luggage, they’re here!
This makes it official!
Chocolate Monkeys at our patio bar!
And their first sunset of the visit… ignore the sweaters!

The next day was a relax day…

Chillin’ by the pool!

Long time friend of Val’s, Afie, was also down for a visit with Val and George and they dropped over to see Dave & Deb! As the El Norte was blowing that day, we set up on our “front patio”.

That evening, we went for dinner at the Viejo Bar in Chicxulub and a bit of music!

Enjoying some pre-dinner beverages
Deb’s dinner had a flaming candle!
Yummy dinners all around…
… and will great local music!

And speaking of another somewhat close… actually too close… friend, Boris…

Boris, our neighbour hood spider by our front door, likely Leucauge Argyra or Orb Weaver!

… and our feathered friends who are glad to a fisherman on the beach!

With due homage to “Finding Nemo”…. “Mine! Mine! Mine!”

And on other “special” friend… remember the Uaymitun Shuffle in the Gulf.

Young stingray basking in the shallow waters at the shoreline!

We did have the whole gang over for a Meet-and-Greet one afternoon!

Diane & Fred, Arlene and Afie…
Elaine and Kent (I did ask him to be natural)…
… and the whole gang!
Elaine with special friend, Afie!

We were able to spend time with some of our Canadian friends from down here too!

Another Jam Session at FACES with Matt & Terri, with Dave & Deb!
A great view of the Progreso Pier from Matt & Terri’s patio
As an extra bonus, a Sir Rod Stewart concert was playing on their TV!

The next day was a planned trip into Mérida to visit Bob & Pat, play some dominoes and go out for dinner.

A spirited game of ChickenFoot dominoes with Bob & Pat!

Unfortunately, Pat was a bit under the weather and they couldn’t join us for dinner at one of our favourite places, Amaro!

I had the Pollo X’catik…
… and Elaine had the Camarones Maya… shrimps sauteed with veggies and Xtabentún

I didn’t grab pics, but Dave had the Lasagna and Deb the Tuna Ceviche.

A few more odds and sods of pics…

The Chicxulub Meteor plaque, with what I am sure is a piece of the original meteor!
Sun Lovers by the Pool doing what Sun Lover do!
Our grandson Jack is always looking for a car!
Setting up the stands for the Pro Volleyball tournament on the Progreso beach.

Another trip into Mérida… this time for a concert at the Teatro Armando Manzanero!

A host of Latin American performers along with the Mérida Big Band!
We had great seats!
It was a fabulous evening!

We had a great time with Dave and Deb but it had to come to an end…

Dinner at Elio al Mare…
… surprise, surprise… with a wedding reception that evening! Who knew!
Sunset view of the Progreso Pier

The next morning, it was off to the airport!

Farewell to the beach…
… and “see ya!” at the airport!

Well, I think I’ll close out this Winter’s 7th blog for now! The next one will highlight our remaining days!

Cheers!

Love to all,

-Doug and Elaine

  1. Dave and I had such a wonderful time visiting as always. It was a great time of relaxing, refreshing and recharging our batteries.
    Such great pictures and memories!
Always wonderful to meet new friends and get re-aquainted with some old friends. We love revisiting some of our favorite restaurants and enjoying the wonderful flavours of the area.
Dave and I always feel very blessed to share time with you both in your Uaymituin home and we will forever be grateful for the many years and Excursions that both of you have taken us on.
    Love you both
